Reviews

“This latest offering from local songsmith Jack Pound is a real jewel in the troubadour’s crown – from it’s anthemic opener Soldiers in the Army of Love to the suggestive finale Dim the Lights. An album of total communication – the subtle undercurrents buried in the humerous coating of Traveller no More laying against the raw unadulterated emotion of Watcher on the Hill and instant classic Stephen Lawrence.

Jack’s unique style moulds with the material, leading you through the twists and turns of this emotional rollercoaster – it’s hard to believe at times that this is just a man, a guitar, a harmonica, and of course a song…………… Buy it.”

Pompy, The Other Three Quarters

“It’s always a pleasure to receive the newest CD from local songsmith Jack Pound, who plays guitar and harmonica. His voice well suits his unique style and material. Listening to his songs is a real experience of every emotion. The ironic humour of ‘Traveller No More’, the pure emotion of ‘Watcher on the Hill’ and the raw open heart sadness of Stephen Lawrence, a song seen not only from a parent’s view but society generally. You can hear the tears in his voice. Done in a gutsy blues style, certain to become a classic. ‘Fragile Earth’ – self explanatory, ‘Jesus in her Soul’ – him an existentialist.

The subject matter is mostly injustice with wry humour and an air of menace. The CD will get you thinking – we enjoyed it.”

NB: King TroubadoursTears is now in its third pressing. Since the above reviews were first published, certain songs have been replaced with others from the same session.  ‘My Own Man’ replaced ‘Watcher on the Hill’ after Kenny Craddock recorded an inspired, definitive version for his Album ‘Mad as the Mist and Snow’. Dim the Lights was dropped and re-recorded for the ‘Kiss an Curse’ Collection.
